The NY Times: Markey Fights for Clean Energy Jobs
March 8, 2010

Democrats will turn the focus to energy efficiency standards and incentive programs this week with hearings in the Senate and House energy panels.

 

Rep. Ed Markey, chairman of the House Energy and the Environment Subcommittee, has been a major advocate of "clean energy" jobs and made several speeches last week touting the potential for jobs in the energy efficiency and renewable energy sector.

Markey, chairman of the Energy and Environment Subcommittee and the author of a bill to establish a federal ban on the chemical Bisphenol A (BPA) in all food and beverage containers, today hailed Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick’s announcement that he has directed the Department of Public Health to take steps to impose a limited ban on BPA.

Markey Introduces National Alzheimer's Project Act
February 26, 2010

Representatives Edward J. Markey and Chris Smith, House co-chairs of the Bipartisan, Bicameral Task Force on Alzheimer's Disease, today announced the introduction the National Alzheimer’s Project Act (N.A.P.A.), H.R.4689. This bill would create the first National Alzheimer’s Project Office for Alzheimer’s, which would coordinate government efforts to treat and prevent the disease. The Office, which would be located within the Department of Health and Human Services, would coordinate and oversee federal research on Alzheimer’s disease. 

 

“This bill is intended to intensify the battle to treat and prevent Alzheimer's disease, which is now the seventh leading cause of death in the United States,” said Markey. “The legislation would help ensure that the federal government better coordinates all of the research and clinical programs dealing with Alzheimer's.”
