Rep. Markey Questions Lack of Encryption, Notification Delay
Representative Edward J. Markey (D-MA), co-chairman of the Bi-Partisan
Congressional Privacy Caucus, pressed Secretary of Health and Human
Services Michael Leavitt today for more information about the theft of
a National Institutes of Health (NIH) laptop containing sensitive
medical information on 2,500 patients. The theft was reported by the
Washington Post this morning.

Commerce Department Rule May Weaken U.S. Export Controls, Benefit China’s Military
Representative Edward J. Markey (D-MA), chairman of the Subcommittee on
Telecommunications and the Internet and a senior member of the Homeland
Security Committee, today reiterated his request for information from
the Department of Commerce about a new rule which could fast-track
exports of sensitive U.S. technology to companies affiliated with the
Chinese government.

Funds will go towards increasing bus fleet, installing new passenger-friendly technologies
Today, Rep. Edward J. Markey (D-Malden) announced a $703,795 Federal
grant for the MetroWest Regional Transit Authority (MWRTA). The grant
is issued through the Department of Transportation and is designated
for the purchase of transportation vehicles, equipment and shelters.
